The Genneper House

On Friday 27 October 2023, the municipality of Gennep and the Limburgs Museum officially joined forces to bring a special piece of Limburg history to life: The Genneper House. This is a former castle and fortified fortress located between the Meuse and the mouth of the Niers. Alderman Janine van Hulsteijn and Limburgs Museum director Bert Mennings celebrated the moment by signing a cooperation agreement in the historic town hall of Gennep.

Interactive exhibition on the siege of The Genneper House
Visitors will have the chance to empathise with the experiences of those who were there in the year 1641, when Gennep was besieged by Frederik Hendrik during the Eighty Years’ War. People such as Frederik Hendrik himself, soldiers, farmers around Gennep, crusaders in the monastery of St Agatha and ordinary Gennep people. They will share their personal stories with visitors of the exhibition, about what they saw, heard and felt, and how the siege affected their lives. These experiences will be supported and complemented by historical sources, paintings, prints and archaeological objects.

Limburgs Museum on Location
