The forgotten princesses of Thorn
Meet the forgotten princesses of Thorn in two guided tours of our exhibition with the same name.
Guided tour (walk-in): get to know the forgotten princesses of Thora
Women ruled in Thorn for many centuries. These noble ladies led independent lives, which in those days was extremely unusual. As high nobility, they lived the life that today’s stars now enjoy. These fashionistas of the past attracted a great deal of interest around the clock. This guided tour takes in all the pomp and grandeur among which these ladies lived. What did their day-to-day life look like? Get to know three of these powerful women: Princess Polyxena, Princess Gabriella, and Princess Cunegonda.

Guided tour (in depth): Discover the lifestyle of Limburg’s powerful women
Art historian Ineke Beeling, a specialist in historical interiors, encourages you to look at the exhibition ‘The forgotten princesses of Thorn’ through different eyes. She uses notable quotes from the book of the same title written by guest curator Joost Welten. How did the princesses dress? Did they have outlandish hobbies or did they stick to the virtuous pastime of embroidery? What were popular styles of furniture? And why did princess Cunegonda have a Chinese room demolished to make way for a salon in pastel shades?
