The Genneper House

Together with the Municipality of Gennep, we are bringing a special piece of Limburg history to life: the Genneper House. This former castle, now just a ruin, played an important role in the Eighty Years’ War. The climax occurred in 1641, when the Genneper House became the scene of a full-scale siege by Frederick Henry, Prince of Orange.

That year is the title of the brand new exhibition 1641 – Experience the siege, which you can visit for free in Gennep’s old town hall. In the exhibition, different characters take you back in time: experience what things were like for Frederick Henry, the soldiers, peasants around Gennep, the Crosiers in the monastery of St Agatha and the residents of Gennep. They share their personal stories: about what they saw, heard and felt and how the siege affected their lives. These experiences are supported and complemented by historical sources, paintings, prints and archaeological objects.
