Everybody knows what a castle looks like. It has battlements, towers and thick walls. Knights and ladies lived in splendour and wealth. Peasants came to pay taxes and in times of war the knights made proper preparations to counter any attacks. However, this romantic image is only partially true. The mediaeval reality is far less romantic.
